Today I'm pleased to introduce you to another fabric-loving friend I met at
Weekend Sewing in Vermont. I must confess I actually stalked Laura (the owner of
Charm Stitch) online before I left for Vermont and freaked out a little bit because with two weeks to go she had already
made a list of things she was going to make and was talking about needing to trace patterns yet. Tracing?! I hadn't even thought about making a list! Once we got to the workshop, Laura kicked it into gear and got started right away on a beautiful Nani Iro double gauze tunic. The woman is a machine, I tell you. It was downright admirable. Here's photographic evidence:
It became immediately evident to me that even if organization or ability to focus were not traits I shared with her, we did share a love of fabric. Laura is a true fabric geek and her shop,
Charm Stitch, is a delight to peruse. For instance, you all know I am a hopeless addict of Heather Ross' Far Far Away fabrics and Laura always has a
great selection:
and I just about died when I saw these new
Yuwa Sweet Grids in her shop the other day. This is the sort of fabric I always buy too little of and end up wishing I had more of, because these go with absolutely everything. They're available as a
fat quarter bundle too, ack!
Here are Laura's favorite Yuwas:
So I'm thrilled Laura agreed to join our giveaways this month and share a bundle of her lovely fabric with you!
THE CHARM STITCH STORY
I think one of the reasons I love Charm Stitch so much (besides the awesome fabric) is that it reflects a dream that I can really relate to. Laura writes: "In 2008 I became addicted to sewing. This was the kind of addiction that if you don't find a way to write off your expenses the husband is going to book back-to-back appointments with the accountant and the therapist. Thinking about my preferences, I realized how few shops carried the most enchanting lines and I determined to start my own for very selfish reasons.

little bolero made by Laura with Far Far Away II |
One day in her hometown of Baltimore, she found herself walking past an empty shop window and dreaming of a fabric shop inside with a classroom of sewing machines and difficult-to-find Japanese fabrics. In her shop, Laura has carefully curated a lovely selection of eclectic prints with a tendency toward Japanese designs, and although currently she only sells her fabrics online, she's brutally honest about where she wants to be: "In a perfect world, the online shop will take off and I'll find myself with an adorable retail shop leaving trails of thread wherever I go." On her website she tells her customers: "I hope that you will support my endeavor by becoming a patron of the online shop. Every sale gets Charm Stitch one step closer to bringing a superior, modern sewing resource to Baltimore."
I'm so excited to see those dreams become a reality. You can read more about Laura here and Charm Stitch here.
